It's been 2 years already, but there I was back at La Mesa (05:20) and as is my preference headed straight along the edge of the fishing pools, thinking I should arrive 20 minutes earlier tomorrow.
I was in a hurry to get to the trails, but as usual I was trying remember all the calls, White Collared Kingfisher, Yellow-vented Bulbuls, Pied Fantails, Lowland White Eyes, Black-naped Oriole, Philippine Tailorbird, Golden Bellied Flyeater and I think Purple Throated Sunbird, all calling more or less constantly. I also saw Oriental Magpie Robin singing in 2 places, on the trails and by the entrance bridge.
When I have a chance, I'll listen again on Xeno, but think 1-2 Red-Bellied Pitta were calling, but could not get on them. After not too long I was getting nice views of Ashy Ground Thrush, one of 2 just off the trail.
A pair of Philippine Pygmy Woodpecker were high up and a 2-3 other calls kept teasing me, my final loop around the amphitheatre produced Zebra Doves, Pacific Swallow and one of the Swiftlets. As I was about to leave a small kingfisher buzzed past giving a high pitched rasping call, I am sure this was Indigo Banded as it was too small for Common.
